2010 Hyndland Cleanup PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 May 2009 00:00

Just a wee reminder that the Big Hyndland Clean Up is happening on Saturday, 24th April, 10.30am.

The plan is that we all meet from about 10.30am onwards outside Peckham’s on Clarence Drive. There will be a short briefing, with Clean Up commencing between 11am -12.30pm.

Materials will be provided – gloves, pickers, bin liners and a couple of skips in which to deposit all rubbish collected. Locations will be briefed on Saturday morning.

Refreshments are planned for all helpers afterwards at Russell House, 81 Hyndland Road

HRA is grateful to Philip Friel, Advanced Dentistry of Hyndland Road for his generous sponsorship of the post work refreshments on Saturday.

See you on Saturday!

Has anyone attempted to engage the police in trying to curb the lunchtime
rubbish around the shops in Clarence Drive generated by schoolkids at Hyndland
Secondary? I have written to the head teacher who says it is not within the
school's remit, though attempts have been made there to ask students to desist.
Council clean-up teams from the cleansing department appear each school day
after lunchtime to dispose of the rubbish that the students carelessly deposit
on the pavement. Can you imagine the cost of this? If the police were to be
called regularly, they might issue ASBOs to the offenders. Littering is an
    offence, of course.

No problem. Spam is the bane of our lives. I registered again as you requested.

I was actually going to start a thread on this very topic. Since the schools
have returned the rubbish in Clarence Drive is ankle deep in places. There are
even paper plates just thrown on the ground yet there is a bin just a short
distance up the road. It really is inexcusable. Maybe the council could have a
warden there ready to collect a few fines and that may help a bit.
