{mosimage}The Clean Glasgow Campaign has been relaunched with a much more proactive focus. Hyndland has been allocated funds for a clean-up, some of which have already been used to clear graffiti and chewing gum from some of the worst affected parts of the area. Hyndland Residents’ Association has embraced this initiative as we agree with Glasgow City Council that the co-operation of our community could play a significant role in achieving a genuine reduction in litter, fly-tipping and offensive random graffiti in our area. As the first stage of our planned campaign a Big Hyndland Clean-up Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday 9 June, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
We hope that our community will embrace this initiative. The Council alone can only do so much. Granted we need more on-street litter bins and that will be lobbied for through the dialogue that has now been established with the appropriate Council Officers. If we in Hyndland do our bit more resources will follow and a signal will be sent to those who besmirch our environment that their actions are very unwelcome. Some will no doubt persist but there is evidence that much littering is unthinking and that is what we most hope to influence. Please do not think that only litter-pickers are needed as there will be many jobs to do outwith that activity. Weather permitting, we hope to finish with a picnic in front of the playground in Lauderdale Gardens. If the weather is inclement we hope to use the facilities of the Community Hall. Mechanical pickers to avoid the need to stoop, together with gloves and bags will be provided. Please just bring yourself (and a picnic) to Hyndland Community Hall at 1030am on Saturday 9 June where teams will be formed and areas allocated. Please also print the poster and put it up in your close to encourage as many as possible to take part in the first Big Hyndland Clean-up Day! Hope to see you there!
